Make It 20- again

Make It 20 was one of my favorite memories and most powerful lessons. I wrote it three years ago today as we launched into our first holiday without Reid.  Two days after that post, Reid's Dad died. Two years after that post, my Dad was in ICU and never got out. So, here I am, three years after that post and the reminder is a healthy one.

Tomorrow is the annual party.  I fear that I spent the last precious moments with my Dad worrying about who was coming to the party. Do I have enough food? Will everybody have fun? I was sad for those who couldn't be here and even more sad for those who just wouldn't. I know he enjoyed helping with the prep, laughing at the holiday chaos and planning for the fun evening of stories and memories. Of course, that party didn't happen as planned but he enjoyed just being in the moment. He was always present.

So, time to get back on track with the Make It 20 lesson. Mindfully engaging and being fully present with every face I see tomorrow will bring me happiness. We'll capture pictures to share with those so far away who we will miss so much. I will greatly appreciate the day for the gift that it is.  Going into each day with that mindset will keep me grounded. It will keep me prioritizing the really important things. It will keep me being my best self in this short life.
