I find it interesting that my most recent lesson on loss was about how and if to talk about Reid to those who never knew him. How do I do that without creating an awkward moment. The Burden of the Story
It's interesting because I was previously blindsided by the concept and am now anticipating it. I am overwhelmed with sadness and anger in this 4th day in this life without my Dad. I am sad about the road my Mom needs to travel. I hurt for his Mom as she has to say good-bye to her son. I am sad for my brother, my daughters, my aunts and uncles, my cousins....all of it. And I cannot help but wonder how I am going to answer the inevitable questions "How was your holiday?". People will ask about my party, which I was not able to host due to this tragedy. If I tell them the truth, they will be forced to search for words. If I answer with "It was good", I am downplaying the significance of this loss. Downplaying his impact.
It is significant.
